Eric....Got to share my experience with our local JD dealer. My husband and I went in to look and test drive the salesman would only talk to my husband....I would ask the questions and he would answer my husband.......BIG mistake!! My husband only drove our tractor once for 30 minutes and ended up in the emergency room!!!! I quickly learned to love my tractor!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I do think what country a company is headquartered in is an important criteria when buying any high ticket item much less if choosing between JD or Kubota. Too bad /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif you don't Henro / Kubota Land

Your situation is similar to mine last November. I started out looking at the 2210 or a B series. Quickly decided that I wanted somethiing bigger than the 2210. Ended up with a 4310 since that was the biggest I could get before a big price jump.

I looked at a Kubota L3400 and it was nearly identical in price to the Deere 4310. I added the heavy duty 300CX loader and have been very happy with it for the most part.

My brother bought the 3400 about a month before I bought the Deere and we use the tractors back and forth. I have to say that either one should serve you well.

My own impression is that the Deere is a more comfortable tractor, but the Kubota takes a lot of punishment and keeps working. My decision was finally based upon an American looking company versus a foreign looking company. As you probably know, the Deere has a Japanese Yanmar engine and is assembled in Georgia. As someone else already posted, Kubota is also assembled in Georgia.

I live not far from the Deere Headquarters and people at least think the Deere is more American, although that can be debated at great length.

My advice is to compare prices, drive all models and see what one feels best to you. You really can't make a wrong decision unless you get something too small.

The original poster is looking at the JD 2210, 4010 and 4110 ( Last I heard all these models are made by Yanmar in Japan )
Wheres the big differance here /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm starting to feel like Bill Cosby at a NAACP rally trying to explain why ebonics is a bad thing. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Who makes the profit? What countries economy will benefit the most?

If I buy from an American company it is much more likely that the overhead expenses will be distributed in the United States. That more of the companies employees will be hired in the US. That more of a percentage of the dollars I spend will remain in the US economy. One more job for an American and their family is enough for me.

But by all means find any way you can to weaken the economy you depend on. It is only one tractor, it doesn't really matter does it? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

To the origional poster, sorry if you feel this detracts from your thread, around here in particular this needs to be said.

Being an new member myself firtol88, I have found this board to be invaluable in my decision making process. I have posted numerous threads and they have been a great resource in my decision making process.

What people aren't looking for is a political opinion as to why they should by John Deere because it is made in America moreso than Kubota. You have made your patriotic points, and I do applaud them. If more people were concerned about from which country they purchased their next big ticket item, them maybe the trade deficit wouldn't be so bad.

But please, offer your advice, avoid the political arguments, and start another thread in the general discussion board to discuss globalization and the impact on the American worker.

I have to agree. When I want to debate politics and economies, there are plenty of forums for that. I don't appreciate my valuable time being wasted having to go through politically motivated posts in THIS fourm. This is a tractor forum, not a political one.

Back to the original question/topic... If you are near Southern Oregon you will not go wrong with Floyd A. Boyd Tractor in Medford, JD dealer, as they are very informative and customer service is priority. They also understand money and realize the informed tractor buyer is looking to pay closer to wholesale vs. retail. Naumes Tractor, also in Medford, is a Kubota dealer and, although nice, figures retail is what one should pay and not interested in negotiating. PM me if either is in your neck of the woods and I will be happy to give details. Bottom line is after the purchase are you going to still by treated as their priority? I have found the differences between these two dealerships shows the Deere dealer to agree with that thinking. Just a local antecdote!! LOL

I think company size, reputation, age in business, and dealer support network matters much more than where their ceo lives.

Look at AGCO.. look at CNH... would I be scared buying a NH tractor?? NOOoooo

I agree with much of the sentiment of the others. tractor talk is fine.. tractor owner nationality and other such stuff is much less fun, as it eventually sinks into somthing like questions about if you are some left wing unltr-conservative commi-pinko- supporter who wants the UN to run the world, and have a state run 'religion'.. what your moral standing on ' abo-- err....right to life' is etc.. etc.

None of that stuff is what I want to read here..

I want to read about HP, tractor tires.. front end loaders.. who has a good price on mowers.. or even horse feed.

Heck.. I'll even kick around with endless/pointless discussions about adding a turbo charger to an engine not designed for it in order to increase the HP way over the rest of the tractor and drivetrain limits instead of just buying the correct sized tractor, just to make Nomad happy. In that same spirit of 'giving' I'll even attempt to read or at least browse thru a couple pages of GSXR1100 's endless posts about how synthetic oil will save the universe.. end hunger, cure all disease, all because it may have less TDS tbn.. xyz FBI CIA , .. even though you may have to send the earth off to be tested to make sure it is doing it correctly.. and the fact that the cost of the testing probably outweighs the savings in the long run in many cases /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That's the stuff i want to talk about... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
