Recommendations for a first baler

How can you talk about selling hay when you are not sure what type of bale you are going to produce? There is alot of difference in price between horse hay and cow chow. What type of storage do you have available? If handling small bales do you have the manpower available to do so. Kids who are willing to bale hay may rule this option out. Best of luck with your plans, but try to learn as much as possible about your market. Then determine what you need to produce the hay you want to sell. You can sell about anything, but to make money everything has to be right.

Unless your planning on baling a thousand bales every year look into a good used baler, you can save some money and be able to trades for a different brand if you aren't happy with it.
The hay business is a vast market and greatly varies year to year. Therefor predicting what hay sells better is nearly impossible. Most guys that have been in the business for years know their customers needs and preferences. Starting out the best you can do is have a good looking, high quality bale of hay. The soft core bales dont sell very well in my area mostly because of the look of it but also most soft core bales dont have as much hay in them as a firm core bale.
