My chaps are Stihl and are a good 10 years old. Dirty. Filthy. Got a few nicks. Well worth the money. Bought at the dealer.

Later,

I will tie it up with my Stihl Chaps. I would just go out and buy whatever pair you want as they all should be a lot more protection than a pair of Levi's. I can speak from experience.

As I mentioned in my OP - I'm needing 2 pair and wanted 1 pair to be "adjustable", I was also hoping for some comments on the Elvex.

My pair is from Sherrell. Full wrap at the ankles. Comfortable (as chainsaw chaps go).

Go to http://www.arboristsite.com/ and do a search on elvex. You will find lots to read there. IMHO, Arboristsite is to chain saws as TBN is to tractors.

Thanks, been there (same user name), done that, did not get the t-shirt.
I've been here long enough that I trust some of the responses.
I don't know who the BS'rs are there.

I have two pair of Stihl chaps, one black, the other orange. Never tried any pants.

I bought both locally, but I have purchased from both Baileys, and Sherrell tree with good success.

FYI, I believe that most, if not all, chaps are NOT safety rated for electric chain saws. This is due to the high motor torque.

I like full pants ..The chaps are awkward when climbing trees and climbing in and out of machinery and leave the legs exposed to thorns and snags when working in dense undergrowth...Generally rair of pants will last me 2 years then stitching falls apart and gets torn so we're forced to change them for safetey reasons.
The stihls are comfortable but don't last as long as other brands....I have a pair of oregon that are 8 years old and like wearing a suit of armour but too heavy for 10 hour days in the summer so keep them for the -30 winters,Your glad of the extra thickness then....I like wearing them with suspenders too and good quality suspenders are a bigger problem than the pants....!
