If you are getting mold on the wood it needs cleaned and sealed. But first you need to seal the block, as that is where the moisture Is coming through. A couple products seal krete but better is ugl drylok. The regular holds back 4psi, but the extreme holds back like 15psi. Also a vapor barrier between the wood and block will help. Also think about how the moisture is getting there, grading the area around the basement, extend your downspouts etc.

Just a thought. I had new shingles installed on the house about ten years ago. They were GUARANTEED to prevent mold, mildew and fungus. Not that we ever have enough moisture here to worry about such things.

However - the reason for this fantastic claim - there is copper infused into the shingles. I wonder if this could hold true for some forms of coatings also.

I know that many paint products used on the hulls of ships are also copper based.

If the walls are continually damp behind the wood sealing the indoor surface is just going to trap more moisture between them. The dehumidifier won't do its best without air circulation. Controlling runoff is indeed the first step in drying below grade spaces.

I'd pull the paneling, etch, seal, and paint the masonry. Trouble areas would be obvious vs hidden and easier to touch up if/as needed.

I have also noticed that I'm not alone as many light colored opaque stained buildings sport that spotty mold that I referred to in earlier post.
They mostly were north facing sides.
The sun seems to handle that mold problem OK, but in my case I'm very shaded.

Yes, that was the point I was trying to make about stain and surfaces. Stain leaves a rougher finish that traps dirt and water better, so you are going to have more dirt / algae / mold issues with stain compared to paint, and in the northern hemisphere, it will be worst on the north facing sides. It isn't you, it is the nature of north facing walls and paint vs. stain.

All the best,

Peter

I was under the impression that the copper in paint was to prevent barnacles from growing on the hulls of ships/boats.
Shingles have micro granular metallic zinc (and some use copper or copper & zinc) as an anti mold/mildew ingredient and there are alsp strips of metallic zinc that are designed to be installed at the ridge to help stop mold/mildew.
