hey guys,
i have been looking thru many threads but can't find specific information for my needs.
i have a jd 5500 (75 hp drawbar and pto) mfwd.
i have a rotary cutter, 16 disc 3 pt harrow, cyclone spreader, 55 gal sprayer, and landscape rake.

what i'm trying to farm on 97 acres:
10 acre dove field in rolling, very rocky clay soil (i try to rotate strips of wheat, millet, sunflowers)
5-6 1/2 acrefood plots
small garden plot.

i have rented a no till drill and borrowed offset plow and destroyed an old plow that was left on the land.

my question is what implements will help me make the most progress in my little operation? i want to get bang for my buck but more important is time efficiency. broken equipment with little time off is no fun and the hassle of renting makes it hard to do the work between the weather and days off.

would i be better off with my own offset disk and draw harrow to prep or roto tiller for seed bed? i've got hard pan issues so would a field cultivator help more? i look on ccraigslist every day but don't know what i really need.

How deep is the hardpan? Normally a subsoiler or ripper is used to break up hardpan. I don't think a field cultivator will do much good for that job. You have enough hp to pull a single shank ripper for sure.

YOu might consider a 10-ft offset wheel disc for primary tillage.

i am going to look at used offset plow in morning.
as far as preparing the seed bed which is best with my hilly, rocky soil where erosiion is an issue?
