Recommended ways to tackle big yard

I have 3 gang reel mowers sitting in my woods rusting away. They are 42" wide each with a setup to link them all together. I bought them from a golf course that went under. I don't know where you live, but you are more than welcome to them; free! Heck, I'll even load them for you.

After spending my money on them, I certainly tried everything I could to get them to work. The only way they will work is if you mow 2 or 3 times a week. Much more than an inch or two is too much for them to cut. More than that, they just jamb up and drag behind you leaving nice ruts in your yard. Any takers? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Is a little roundup around the trees OK? I have grown tired of string trimming, and ever since I complained about my wife's crappy job of trimming - you guessed it, it's my job again.
That's what I get for wanting it done right.
Don't wanna kill off any trees...

We have a 5 gang, 3 front and 2 in back, that was made by Jacobsen about the same size as yours. We gave a golf course $500 for it to cut our rc flying field, works great, but like you say, you need to mow often.. Looks funny, but works great pulling it around in our trucks or vans.. If you knew of someone with a airport ,rc or full size, they would probably be willing to pay for it.. JohnJ

Roundup is OK as long as you don't get it on the leaves of the plant(trees etc).

I just about eliminated my trimming by taking the sod away from the tree trunk and planting violets and goutweed in the soil under the trees. It looks good and requires almost no maintanence. I did the same where ever I was having to trim. For the shaded north side of the house use sweet woodruff. Lots of ground covers to work with in all climatic zones.

I've never used the snowblower. I just bought the BX2230 and apparantly the snow blower is being built or is built now or on order or something (I guess there is a big backlog on them) so cannot speak on its performance. However, I traded in a Kubota T1770 with 40" snow blower and it would shoot the snow 40' with ease. The same thing happened to me when I bought my BX2200 in August 2003. I ordered the 60" plow and didn't get it until November due to backorder. I was worried that it wouldn't make it in time, but we didn't get first snow until early December, so it made it just in time.

Last year they had your snow blower sitting on a BX2230 on the showroom floor at our dealer, but it wasn't there long...
