Rediculous uses of tractors

Harv, that's not a rediculous use of the tractor at all. What if one of your tools got stuck in the ground, like the pick axe, and you needed the tractor to pull it out. Heck, you probably need to carry 20' of chain, just in case.

I have a 3-foot-square platform that hooks on my 3-point hitch. Each fall I drive around the perimeter of our acreage and stand on this platform while I clean out bluebird houses.

Last night I "tilled" our little 500 sq. ft. garden with the loader on my L3010. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif I'm too cheap to buy a tiller but not a Kubota. I'll have our local tiller guy come in the spring and do it for 30 bucks but I just wanted to play in the dirt this time! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I used my new John Deere 4300 to empty my savings account.

Chuck,
I'm considering an offer from a neighbor who saw my L175 on the trailer and offered me $4G for it. Why? To put money back into the bank account! That, and the fact a long distance move is looking more and more likely.

LDJ, It is very dangerous to give anyone a ride in the bucket. I have heard of more than one case of something going wrong and the bucket drops while moving forward, severing legs. This is more dangerous than not wearing a seatbelt.

I did give my grandmother a ride in a wheelbarrow once to show her the stream in the woods behind my house.

When I was in college, I used to run a case 1907 steam traction engine (crude tractor, mostly used as a mobile power source rather than for tillage) at special events. If I didn't feel like getting up early enought to build up a head of steam so i could drive it before traffic started moving, I would tow it behind a newer tractor. It made a good match with a clean 2755w/cab that belonged to research operations.

Anyway, my last year, I was unable to borrow the 2755, and used a worn out 3020. I had a friend drop me off to pick it up. It turned out that it had to be jumped off, oil had to be added, and steering was too loose to drive as fast as I would have liked. I realized I didn't have time to drop it off and walk to class. So I drove it on to class (with my backpack hanging from the top link. Somebody snapped a picture as I was pulling into the modern looking electrical engineering building, and put it in the paper with the caption "Patton Turner, 04EE, driving to school"

After reading these posts, it is clear to me that: mixing of concrete in the bucket, driving to the mail box, toating garbage cans & hand tools, touring the property with my parents and brother on the bucket and wife on the drawbar fits right in. That little B2400 sure comes in handy.

Can we also consider where I spent some of my summer afternoons as a boy-in the bucket of my uncle's 1951 Fergussen 30 along with my cousin? We had a blast way up there!

Even though this is under Kubota owning, I'll add my uses for my JD790. I keep the tractor at home, in the garage (poor truck sits out now) and just drive to our 10 acres three miles away when I need it. Of course, seeing the tractor there every day makes me want to use it whenever I can. So, here's what I've done with it at our 1/2 acre subdivision lot: 1) Answered nosey neighbor questions when it was delivered (with a huge smile on my face). 2) Carried four bags of play sand around to the deck. 3) Loaded the old sand from the sandbox into the loader and took down the street to a vacant lot. 4) Used the loader several times to remove and install the fifth wheel hitch in the back of my truck. 5) Numerous "rides" for my boys around the neighborhood (I know, dubious safety practice). 6) Showed wife how to operate loader and we off-loaded a borrowed disc from a trailer for some repairs prior to driving it out to the real property.

Overall, having tons of fun!
Rob
