We have enjoyed the redneck jokes for years. It's time to take a reflective look at the core beliefs of a culture that values home, family, country and God . If I had to stand before a dozen terrorists who threaten my life, I'd choose a half dozen or so rednecks to back me up. Tire irons, squirrel guns and grit -- that's what rednecks are made of. I hope I am one of those. If you feel the same, pass this on to your redneck friends. Ya'll know who ya' are.

No sir, I got everyone of them and I can assure you that I fit the culture that values home, family, country and God. What I meant was of all the "You might be a redneck if" jokes that I have heard/read over the years, I have never seen those before. One's that relate to strong values.

Sounds more like its describing a proudly raised American with good core values and beliefs, redneck or not!
I'm far from a redneck, but I fit into all of those sayings!

I know what you mean about the term " Redneck " I am not crazy about that term either ....but certain segments of society like to label any of us that stand by those standards as rednecks...it serves to demonize us...and make us comical...a form of ridicule ...so this is a way for us to define ourselves...embrace the term of the opposition and define it...

Wow! Finally. A proven scientific method to distinguish one human being from another. You, Sir, should be given a Nobel prize. Stupid me, I always thought I could spot a redneck by their ignorance, narrow mindedness, and the definitive yuk, yuk accent. Now I know better.

The large majority of the people that call other people - Rednecks" - have confused the Denotation and the Connotation of the word, Redneck. In the past, people that lived in the Country or rural areas, Mountain People, Hillbillies; etc, were labeled as backward and uneducated. It is common today to associate these lifestyles as being synonymous with being labeled as "Rednecks". BTW, it has been rumored that "WE" marry our First Cousins. That is completely false. We are only allowed to marry our Second Cousins; at least in the Mountains of Appalachia.

Creekbend, it depends on who one is when they call someone a redneck. For some groups it means a racist bigot for others it means a hardworking person who earns a living working outdoors or at a trade. The original meaning goes back to West Virginia coal miners who wore red bandanas around their necks and something to do with whether they were union workers or not. There was some sort of uprising among the red bandana wearers. I don't recall the exact history.

Some of my best friends are down to earth country folks with traditional values - most don't mind the term redneck among themselves - just don't call them one if you aren't one! I'd rather go to war with a bunch of rednecks on my side than a bunch of intellectuals.

I work with a LOT of guys that call themselves Rednecks (although it's sorta reminds me of guys who ride Harley's and call themselves badass-it's more of an image) and I'm always amazed at how many rounds of ammo they have stored away at their home. The latest purchase from one of them is a 16k dollar 50 cal fully automatic. I want that guy on my team! :laughing:
