Reese hitch receiver tubing undersize

Our local yard just sells it as 2" ID square seamless. The hick way is to use seamed tubing and grind a groove in the receiver.

I had some 2" seamed I had to use as a receiver so I ground a cold chisel and cut the seam off.

Watch what kind of square steel tubing you use . Some if it is hotrolled and has seam, and some is extruded & cold drawn and is seamless. The hot rolled won't stand the pressure that the other will . I would be carefull of type I used on a hitch that was going to have some weight on it. I would go to a regular hitch dealer or camper dealer to get products to build Hitches. You are puting somones life in danger by using CHEAP products.

i used the rolled and welded heavy tubbing for my hitch and have stalled my tractor out towing with it, a jd 4310 27 hp, and had no problem with it

I tried making the female part (reciever) of a Reese hitch once. I learned that the Reese tube had no inside seam but the standard tubing I had DID have an inside seam on one side. Made it impossible to slide existing male parts in.

Also learned the hard way that the squared corners on some tubing will not slide into the Reese reciever. It has to be the rounded corner tubing.
