Agreed. A nice mildewed wet piece of wood is just about as good as an ice skating rink.
Put some “extra textured” deck paint on my Trailer and it’s very grippy.

But once iced over all bets are off. Think Ill go to 8’ and see if they can do some more grading before they put down the Blue stone.

Doubling up 2x6x8 and adding ground supports sounds like it will do the trick.

I have never tried that stuff. How does it hold up on the trailer? Steel deck or wood?

It’s a small 4x8 Trailer covered with plywood. Only had it a month but it seems rugged.

In the shed we used Rustoleum Deck and Floor coating (untextured) and it says can be applied to pressure treated wood.

OK, here is the almost-completed project.

Used pressure treated 2x8x8 stock. Built up the joists so there is ground contact the full length of each runner. Need to do some grading and leveling of the gravel and add a filler piece up front to complete it. Top is about 16 at the shed.

Looks great! Very similiar to what I did. I only had a 7" elevation to deal with and it's been fine.

I did a similar PT ramp out an 8' x 8' side garage door dedicated for the tractor. I use 2x10s and made a "diagonal" cut for the slope starting off the tops. So one end is the full width and the other is whatever is left based on the slope. For the 8' entrance I used 5 supports. I then screwed the diagonal pieces centered on a PT 2x6 which is sitting on the ground, basically forms an inverted "T". The 5 supports were then spaced accordingly and a 2x10 screwed to the tall ends to be mounted to the building. I screwed a 2 x 4 to the front ends to basically secure the assembly. I then drilled anchor holes into the foundation to mount the assembly to. I used 2 x 6 boards for the decking.

The key is to get the ramp area graded (height) for the assembly to sit tight to the building. Once graded I ran the tractor back and forth to compact the area before securing it to the building. The nice thing is all the weight is just on the ground. I didn't take any pictures when I built it but hopefully you get the idea.
This was helpful. Started off with one joist to make sure it fit.

Once we got that right, made six of them.

Put in some cross pieces to make sure it was stable.

And planked it. We want to paint it but we羆*e advised to wait 2-6 months to dry out. Going to put another piece in front and grade the gravel. But it supports the tractor!

Glad it helped!
That's essentially what I did. I just had less elevation.

If you run into a traction issue, as some posters were concerned with, you could always get some 3/4" PT boards and rip some 1" strips and screw them across the middle of your deck planks.

NICE JOB!

I’ve got a pile of sand nearby. Going to use a textured deck paint but when it’s cvered with ice in winter it won’t matter.

I used that textured deck paint on a 5x10 utility trailer deck and it was a waste of time. Stuff started pealing and just made a mess. Glad I didn't use it on my larger trailer! Granted it sees a lot more abuse than a ramp would. But that's why I suggested using the wood strips that would provide better traction than sand IMHO. I just used a clear preservative on my ramps once the wood dried. Easy to reapply too.

I have this on my Trailer: two coats of extra texture deck paint. So far so good. If it doesn’t work we’ll put down “ridgies.”
