I am going to repair the puncture in my rear R-1 tire and install a tire reliner and change the inner tube out. My question is which tire iron/spoon is best to use to reinstall the tire on the rim. I searched but couldnt find any tips or tricks on doing the repair. Tire size is 13.6-24.
Also, should I take tire/rim off tractor or could I leave it on?
Thanks all

Other opinions may vary, but we always took a rear tire off, laid it flat and worked on it. It seems trying to do one on the tractor could result in damage to the tractor and/or the repair person.

Yep, you take the wheel off and lay it flat, remove the valve core. If the bead is already broken loose, then you just need two tire irons to pry it off. In a pinch even big screwdrivers can be used. Be sure the bead is kept pushed down in the center of the wheel opposite where you're using the tire irons. If the bead is not broken loose, there are tools for that also, but I have broken them loose by carefully driving the left front wheel of the car or pickup onto the tractor tire, close to, but not on, the tractor wheel. To put the tire back on, push it on as far as you can, pushing the bead down into the center of the wheel on one side while pushing it toward the other side, then use a rubber mallet to pound it the rest of way, striking with the mallet just about where the tire bead is starting over the edge of the wheel.

And it sure is easier to show than to tell how to do it.

Same as above + I like to have 3 4X4, or 4X6 short blocks under the tire, after getting the first side on. Lots easier to get the tube in, and in position. I also like to inflate the tube enough to get all the wrinkles, and crinkles out, with the valve stem out, then let it deflate...

Dad used to sprinkle baby powder inside the tire, to keep the tube from sticking, in case you ever need to do it again. But hat was mainly on the truck tires...

Something like Ru-Glide from NAPA as a bead lube is a big help too. Some use dish soap, but it is corrosive to the rim. I bought a gallon probably 15 years ago, and still have over half of it left... It goes a long way, and seems to keep on the shelf.

Glad to see you added some things I forgot. I, too, always inflated the tube without the valve core in it, then let it relax. I never used the baby powder but remember a lot of people did. And I did use soapy water for a lubricant on the rim.

If you can locate an old leaf spring, from back in the day when they were tapered thin on each end and rounded, cut it in half and you have a pair of the best tire irons / spoons ever made.

Using an old leaf spring is a very good tip too...I also had to remove the tire and rustproof and paint the inside of my Ford rims?

yep.. take it off.. don't want to risk knock it iff a jackstand beating on it.

I like flat spoons, bent spoons with a step in them, and an ocasional stepped poker style.

add to that a big tire hammer, some vegitable tire lube, valve stem fishing tool, and good quality tubes.

if the rim is rusty.. clean it up and paint it prior to remounting tire..

I was watching tv one time and these icelandic mechanics were changing a tire on a toyota truck. They were out on the arctic ice, on their way to the north pole, and needed a way to seat the tire on the rim. they had it on the rim, but it still needed to be seated. What they did was take a bottle of butane used for refilling lighters, and sprayed quite a bit in the tire. Next they tossed a match at it, and all the butane ignited, and the explosion seated the tire on the rim. Now this will only work on a tube less tire, and is an easy way to get hurt, but will work in a pinch.
