Reminder-What is REALLY in that fuel can?

I have not had issues with the cans.

I had the hardest time when our son, now 10, filled the lawn mower up for me 5 years ago. He did just an awesome job, and was so proud! Only problem was he filled the gas tank, oil filler tube, and every other orifice on that mower with water.

I couldn't get too upset; he was so proud and really though he did good. It was just one of those moments /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I educated him thereafter on stuff like that. Mower still runs, although it has never been quite right since /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

There are the cans we use at home and then there are the big cans.

A fuel truck driver stop at a store and mixed gas in the kerosene tank. Its caused four house fires in eastern NC this past week. The driver ignored the colors on the hoses and fill tubes. He lost his job, four families are out of their houses.... I don't think anyone died in the fires.

Later,
Dan

For the Wifey and others benefit ant to protect my equipment I use a sharpie marker and label all fuel containers with what they contain and what to use them on. For example 1 can says:
Gas/oil mix
16/1
For 18" Craftsman Chain saw

another one:
Gas/oil mix
40:1
For poulan Chainsaw and weedeater

I went to this method after the wife put straight gas in a weedeater and trashed it. She never trimmed at home, but this was a church project thing. She came home complaining about my piece of junk weedeater, after investigation I agreed that it was NOW junk. Somehow I got blamed for that /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

i do the same thing, but use marked tags, chainsaw, weed wacker, gas for GT& walk behind, Diesel for kubota etc. this is not really a problem for me as i am the the only one who buys the fuel, adds it to machines. would not expect the wife to do it, she don't use the equiptment, so why would she need to fuel it? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would like to see an off-color can, for 2-stroke. Mine is in a small red can, so it is gas for sure. But if it gets mixed up with regular gas, there goes the trimmer and chainsaw. I wrap duct tape around the can and mark it with a permanent marker; works for a while...

================
I paint the top of each can a different color.

Some years ago, I came across a 1 gallon can that was red with a black stripe molded in. Can't remember where this was, but I'd love to get my hands on a few now...

<font color="purple">That's why I label each can with a tag attached to the handle with a twist tie.
I aso keep a list showing what each color is for stored with the cans </font>
