Those thieves were pretty determined and managed to get around most of your ingenious measures. Did your neighbors have trouble, and did any of the locals suggest who the thieves might be?

That area of the locality has always had theft issues which is why we just bought other property and moved everything. We recently suspected our closest neighbor as the thief, he's in his 40's, is an alcoholic, does not work and is a known thief to fund his life.

In the first picture what is that machine with the tracks on it?

A 330 Bombardier ATV with a Tatou winter track kit. In the fall remove wheels, put on tracks, when spring comes, take off tracks, put wheels back on. Takes about an hour for the changeover each time. More dependable in deep fluffy snow than a snow mobile with regards to hills, stopping & then going again, and especially tight corners in woods.

Here in the Chicago area it would have been a lot cheaper to put out a hit on these guys. I learned a lot reading your ideas.

Your suggestion reminds me of a story I read many years ago where a guy in Wyoming was frequently robbed. He rigged a shot gun aimed at the door that was typically forced open. Killed the perp. He was charged with murder and went to jail.

A determined thief will circumvent any protective measure except insurance. Get it and be done with it

In our case insurance was not an option as we tried about 3 companies, including our then current home insurer. Not only did we want theft insurance, but liability as additional worries included some jerk getting hurt on the property and suing us. No one would touch it because we did not have a residence there, which is why we went through such extremes to protect our property.

We now have property in the same area where we now live with a residential farm policy and that remote property is now covered.
