Remote lever sticking

Jinman, just curious as to whether you have had a chance to work on your rear remote and if my advice was right.

Actually, I will probably work on it this weekend. I've been spending a lot of time installing a bedlift on my girlfriend's Kawasaki Mule and repairing her gate closer. I have both of those things done now, so I have some time to do a little maintenance on my tractor. I'll let you know what I find out after I check it this weekend. If I was a betting man, I'd bet your advice is exactly what is wrong. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Both my rear remotes (tc33d) stick too, from time to time.

TechinNY, you get a big gold star. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Your advice was perfect. I'm attaching a picture of what I found when I removed the cover on my remote valve assembly. It was so rusty I could hardly believe the mess. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I cleaned up the spring and rod as best I could and then sprayed the area with grease and compressed the spring until it was loose. Funny thing though... When I put the cover back on, the motion was still stiff, but it shortly loosened up to the point that It now works smoothly and snaps back to center immediately when released. Thank you very, very much for your excellent tip. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Nope! No gasket. The cover has a small notch cut in it that looks like it's supposed to drain moisture. I used some white caulk when I put it back together so I hope it is sealed now. One thing I should say is that I think I probably contributed to getting water inside this assembly by washing/rinsing off my tractor. I don't think rain would normally get into this area. Now those who use pressure washers are really pushing their luck. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Glad I can be of help. Yes, that notch is a drain hole that is supposed to be located to the bottom. The only thing I can say about the caulk is that now any oil that leaks will not come out and could build up and eventually hydraulicly lock the spool up. Keep us, posted! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Jim is your tractor kept in a shed or out in the open. Might this be merely a case of condensation build up? I think I would have painted the internal parts with never seize since it is a grease and most likely would have prevented rust from occurring again. What do you think?

Mike, as I mentioned earlier, I think I got water into the control valve area while rinsing off the tractor. I don't see how condensation would be the culprit since this part is no different than anywhere else on the tractor. This part is actually pretty protected except from blowing rain. ...but yes, I do keep my tractor outside...and so do most dealers on their lots for months and months. I just believe since the cover has no gasket, it's easy to get water inside while rinsing or washing the tractor. I think my caulking will be okay since it drys spongy. If any pressure is inside the assembly, it will blow the caulking out of the small drain hole.

Jim sounds like you got a handle on it without my two cents worth. I hope it holds together for you without further problems for the life of the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
