Remote propane block heater install.

So do you leave the heater running overnight or fire it up in the morning? If so, how long does it take to bring the engine up to starting temps?

Convection. The hot hose is higher than the cold. As the water heats, it rises. Eventually it makes the full circuit. Not the quickest way to circulate, but it works when there is no electricity. It helps to keep the hot hose supported by the front tire and the return hose lower, thus aiding in the flow. I'll use the electric heater when I'm close to an outlet, as it's a bit faster.

I'm glad someone else asked the question. I sure couldn't see how it actually warmed up the engine block. Being from the deep south, we really don't need or have block heaters, so those things are foreign to us (and thankfully so ;)). Still, I was curious to know how it worked.

Just as an aside, it's little surprise stuff like posting the link to the Webasto truck heaters that keeps this website so enjoyable. Who knew about such things (unless you work with trucks, which I don't), but obviously there's a need for them. Interesting!
