Remote Start

   / Remote Start #21
I have it on my 2011 Chevy 1500...A factory job so the remote start is on the lock/unlock GM key fob. I'm pretty sure I'll be putting auto start on every vehicle I own in the future...it is awesome!!

For lurkers.... :) Aftermarket remote start units can usually be made to work with the factory remote. However, (you knew there'd be a 'however'), the 'issue' with the factory remote is the distance at which it works, which is usually way less than aftermarket remotes. Of course, the trade off is having to carry an additional remote.

I don't know what you are planning on installing it on but the nice thing on my factory installed f150 remote start is that it automatically turns on the heat or ac depending on the temperature so you don't have to remember to set it and it even turns on the heated/cooled seats.

The last one I installed was on my 2000 Tundra. They are pretty straight forward. I would do another one again. The only issue I ran into on an aftermarket one is how it detects your engine is running. I had to set the unit to voltage sense (it would detect when the engine was running by seeing an increase in voltage when the alternator started working). It didn't seam very reliable so I switched to timed mode (it would crank the starter for a predetermined amount of time). Back then you had to identify ever wire, now they may be plug and play. I got a factory remote starter on my new Rav4.

What year is your F-150, my 2012 will not turn the seats on, but does choose AC or heat depending on the ambient temperature. Maybe mine can do that but I never saw anything about enabling it.

Mine is also a '12. I think the temperature has to be below 30 or above something for the heated/cooled seats to come on. If it is in the middle there they will not. Nothing to turn on as far as I know. It just works.

Oh, I don't know if it matters but it is a fx4 w the luxury package I think.

all 3 of my cars have them and my truck
wouldn't be without them
only 1 is factory (my wifes Enclave)
rest are aftermarket
friend does all the installs
aftermarket has longer range than factory
