We have a 5600 and want to install the rear work lights. I need to get the face off the control panel to access the harness and plug for the switch. How does this come off? I can kind of pry it a bit but it seems like something is ready to snap (not me - yet).

Thanks in advance for the help.

The dash controller/panel is held in place by two "tabs". You will need to get your hand behind/under the dash and push on the tabs to release the controller. It is easier if you have another person to give you a hand. Be careful, that controller is big american dollars. If memory serves me, it's easier to start on the passanger side. Once the passanger side tab is loose you will need someone (or a screw driver) to hold that side so it does not pop back into place, then release the driver side. Small hands are a big plus for this job. I would double check the wiring diagram and ake sure that you actually need to remove the dash controller. There are lots of "capped off" electrical connections in other locations as well. Does your current switch for the lights have the icons for all lights?

The switch that was in the box is a rocker switch with a light icon on the switch.

I can see the plug I need on the harness up underneath the dash, but it is way up there and on the wrong side of steer column. I thought it would be easier to get to and easier to get into position behind the switch hole if I could reach through where the control panel is.

So this is a time when a small child might be helpful around the shop?

Many thanks for the tips.

My hands are average size and I have (when I didn't have a choice...lol) been able to reach the tabs. The tab on the passanger side is located in the same approximate location as the aux hydraulics & lights button. The light switch on my TC's has a three postion switch with different icons for the lights for head lights, front over heads, and front & rear overheads. If your switch does not have this order it from the dealer or install a generic three position switch.

Well we were able to get to the wiring plug without removing the control panel. Everything is plugged in and seems to work O.K. except the green indicator light on the switch does not illuminate when switched on. Otherwise only the usual cuts and scrapes when grouping around the back of a dash.

The stock TC switches are made by Eaton and can be found at Newark Electronics. They are not cheap >$15...but would look "stock" when installed in the dash. I think they are the "Euro Look" ones.

Racer,

The lack of an indicator light may be how you have it wired. Do a quick search on the net for a diagram and you may find your answer.

Spudgunner,

How goes your winter? We have had plowable events 6 out of the last 7 days! National says at least 5 more days of snow! So far we have shredded one side wall on a TC tire, sucked up one of those braided dog chew toys which bent the blower fan, and sucked up firewood (being used as a wheel chalk) which didn't get past the auger thank God... It's still early in the season!

Tim,
In this weather pattern we are "downstream" from N. Cali. We are "enjoying" weather very similar to yours. I have not switched over to the blower yet as I'm using the plow to (hopefully) throw the 2x4's, foam sleds, firewood, Sonotubes, and firewood outta the way. Did I mention firewood?

NWS is giving us the same story as they are giving you, apparently.

No mech failures (yet).
