I have an older B7100D and need to replace the gear shift boot. I have acquired the boot, but cannot get the gear shift knob off. There is a hole in the middle, if that helps. Any ideas?
Gear Shift Knob removal has come up recently in other threads. The consensus seems to be that the knobs are on there permanently and need to be cut off.
Have a look at the bottom of this page in "Similar Threads"... your answer may lay there.
Mine are plastic and I believe simply pressed on. Heat would soften the plastic and you should be able to then pry the knob off.
I re-installed my knob by stuffing with hot glue and pushing into place.
Heat gun.
Fix something like a pair of vise-grips below the knob, and pry off after careful heating. Heat again, reapply, tap in place
Worked pretty well on my 7610.
