Typically, it's just a matter of relocating a spring and changing the location of the throttle cable. The full model number is needed since there's a bazillion different setups. I just did it for a Tractor Supply mini-bike. But I also installed a tachometer and try to keep the RPM no higher than about 4200. If the engine is stock, you can throw a rod in less than a second by over revving the engine.

Any particular reason for your lust for speed on a lawn mower? :giggle:

Most governors have an arm the moves as rpms increase. Usually there is a spring that resists the movement. The arm is linked to the throttle plate of the carb. Connect the spring to something to put some tension on it, remove the link to carb, use the original speed control to control the throttle plate directly for engine speed. No need to remove the governor. The tension is so the governor doesn't fly apart. I had one on a Wisconsin engine that the spring broke and the governor was allowed to fly apart, so it did.

Pictures would help. Good luck.

I use the mower to pull a wagon not just to cut the grass and for the bigger loads it need more power that the governor is restricting the motor.

More spring tension will allow higher rpms as it prevents the governor's ability to throttle down. The governor's job is to maintain rpm's, when you throttle up, you are pulling the governor's arm to increase throttle. Use a slightly stronger spring, or move the spring closer to the pivot point by drilling an additional hole in the bellcrank. Make a series of holes and you can find the adjustment that works for you.

Im surprised 20HP on a garden tractor doesnt have ample power to just spin the tires if hooked to something heavy
