Remove tires from rims with wood splitter

Take them to a rural tire shop that does tractor tires. They'll probably charge $10 to change them both. I had a 13.8x28 tire tube patched. Took the whole wheel down to the shop and they fixed the tube, cleaned the rim and remounted the tire for $20. I sure can't buy tools for that and fight with 8-ply tires.

I like this idea. I bet it wouldn't be too hard to weld a piece of curved leaf spring onto a piece of pipe that fits on your woodsplitter ram.

I'm semi-retired on a fixed income - throwing money at a problem is easy advice (here, just go buy this $150 tool!) but not always an option for some of us. Thus, 'farm engineering' is born. :thumbsup:

Have you tired simply letting the air out and leaving the valve core out and just laying the tire flat on the ground and stepping on it? If the steel wheel doesn't have a bead to hold the tire on they could be debeaded very easily.

I have used the landing gear on my fifth wheel before. I even have a remote control.

I jack up one side of the tractor, remove the wheel and lay it under the hub, then lower the jack and let the weight of the tractor on the hub break the bead. I have soft turf tires though, with r4's it may work better... or no as well. I also wouldn't recommend trying this with rear tires.

I don't see why the log splitter idea wouldn't work either though.

i saw a link on youtube, earlier today, for a wood splitter breaking bed, but i don't have a wood splitter so i never saved the link.

dish soap! ya! there is such a thing as not enough and to much dish soap though. to much and your bars slip on you without much weight/pressure on them. not enough, and the bloody beads will not slip but drag and catch on ya...
