Removing attachment pin from lift arm on 3 point hitch BX

Short piece of pipe large enough to clear the shoulder on the pin. Slip it over the threaded end. Add a flat washer. Put the nut on and tighten. Should pull right off.

^^ definitely this if you have a nut that fits (which i guess you might, from the implement)

So I made some progress. Dealer said it was safe to whack with my 3LB hammer (all around useful "convincer" tool). With that, I've gotten the pin most of the way out. It's now mostly on the left side, meaning the threaded end is most of the way out and the pin end is now pretty much flush with the ball opening. I need a punch of some sort or similar tool that'll push on the pin while I hit with the hammer some more, or perhaps the air hammer mentioned above, which sounded like a good plan.

Getting the arm off isn't so easy, as the lower end of it has one of the same ball joint setups. There are also some pins, but those aren't a big issue. I did think about removing it.

A gear puller didn't work, because the arms have no flat surface in the area involved. That's really a shame, as the puller would have otherwise made short work of it. If I had a heavy piece of steel with a cut-out to go around the pin, that would surely work. Haven't come up with anything for that yet.

Let's try that again with quote, so it makes sense.

Can either of you describe this more completely? I am not understanding how you are intending this to work. I do have the nut and lock washer from the implement, so that's not a problem.

Can you describe this further. I'm not following what you have in mind. I do have nut and lock washer.

What they are saying is to cut a short piece of pipe with an interior diameter that is large enough to clear the flange on the threaded side of the pin. I.e., so it will act as a bushing and contact the end of the lift arm).

Then put a flat wash on the end of it and screw a nut on the threaded end of the pin. Tightening the nut will cause the pipe "bushing" to push against the lift arm and pull the non-threaded end of the pin out.

Find a piece of pipe that fits over the pin, but that is smaller than your washer, cut it to be enough shorter to slide over the pin and put the nut/washer on, then tighten the nut. The pipe should push on the ball and pull the pin out as the nut is tightened.

measure from the arm to the end of the threads. subtract +/- the height of the nut + washer. cut a piece of pipe where the ID clears the pin shoulder (at the base of the threads) to that length. slide that over the threaded end of the pin. place the washer and nut on, crank down. as the nut moves down the pin will pull out.

Thanks all. Now I get it. Sounds quite workable. Same basic idea as the gear puller, but off the other side. Now to see if I can find materials to make that work.

I would do a little checking with that lift arm and see if other pins wedge in like that one. If so, take it (lift arm) to your dealer and ask them to replace it. Either you have some oddball size lift pins OR the ball is machined too small. There should be enough slack between the ball and the pin so it doesn't bind like that. I had some bushings that I used on my LS before I changed out the Cat 1 to Cat 2 pins, the bushing which was cadmium plated had galvanic corrosion between it and the ball. I had to use my cutting torch to cut both of them out. I greased them up good from then own. After I sold my Yanmar, I put replaced all the cat 1 pins with Cat 2.

I had a pin stuck like that this fall. It was a bit tight to go on but it went on with a bit of persuasion. However trying to get it off was a bear. After soaking the area down I started sanding the shaft extending out hoping that once I got it started with the 3# hammer it would be easier. It still took quite a bit to get it to the place where it was sanded, but it came off. Good luck with your pin. Henry.
