I bought a 98 JD 4100 at an auction with a 410 loader. I have no idea /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifwhat the step by step proceeder is to remove and install FEL. Thanks for any help on this.

Didn't you get the manuals with the tractor? You should have got one for the tractor and one for the loader.

Mine has a FEL (older Deere 670), but the procedure may differ slightly so I won't explain how I do it...but it is easy! First time is a bit intimidating, though. Re-installing the FEL is a bit more work (mostly getting the tractor aligned to the FEL frame is a bit of trial and error, initially). I'm sure one (or more) of our TBN bretheren will give you a better response then this one.

However, once you've done it a few times, removal takes less time then it did for me to write and post this response.

If you didn't get the manuals, you can at least read the tractor manual online on the Deere website (it'll be slightly different as the new 4100 has changed a little bit from the '98), but that won't help you with the FEL removal. I've not seen loader manuals on the Deere site...can't say I've looked though. Strongly suggest you do order those manual (tractor and FEL) if you don't have them.

Rammin,

Congrats on getting your 4100 ! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a 4100, and after you've taken the FEL off and put it on a couple of times, you'll see that the hardest part of it is getting off the tractor to disconnect the hydraulic lines. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

After you have the FEL mechanically unhooked, you turn off the engine and then you disconnect the hydraulic lines. One thing that wasn't clear in some of the manuals - BEFORE you go to disconnect the hydraulic lines, move the FEL Joystick through all the positions (ie. left & right and front & back) a couple of times. This releases the pressure in the hydraulic lines - it's typically about 2500 PSI. If you don't you'll find the Quick-Connects are REALLY hard to unhook - and eventually you'll blow out the o-rings in the connectors... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Good luck, and happy tractoring. Let me know if there's any other questions I can answer for you.
