Removing Water From Diesel Tank

Just set the drum in a nice sunny spot. Solar will dry it in no time and for free. By all means filter before use.

Just had a Northern Tool open near me. Goldenrod water filter is available in a spin on and cartridge element.

Is one better than the other? Only a few dollars price difference in the element so $$ are not a issue. Both have positive reviews.
Which one is the best??

This is the easy and simple way.

I got most of the water with a cloth on a piece of PVC pipe and set a small fan over one bung and it dried up what little water was left in there.

Northern Tool just opened a new store up the road and the Goldenrod spin on and cartridge water filters are available.

Which is the best? Both are only about $10 difference in price.

If you get the cartridge one, be sure to get the filter wrench. I broke the housing on my first one. A new housing cost more than the entire filter assembly so I replaced the whole thing. Then I found one of my local stores started stocking the Golden a Rod filter wrench which fits the lugs at the top of the clear housing. No problem after that of course.

I have been a fan of using this cheap little funnel. Great for when you are pouring from small fuel containers. A regular fuel filter on a pump is ideal for larger fuels supplies, but this thing is great for smaller applications.

There are different models. Some only filter "dirt", other models filter water and "dirt". Here is information on the "water block" model:
"WATER-BLOCK spin-on canister absorbs water from gasoline and diesel fuel, and filters microscopic particles (10 microns) of rust, sand, dirt, scale and lint. Restricts fuel flow as water is absorbed, signaling the need for a canister change. "

Note, the water block ability is disabled with gasoline containing ethanol.
It's also disabled if you treat your fuel with additives which contain a water dispersant ... like the white Power Service ... ;)

Before you fill with fuel you can give it a rinse with 90% alcohol.
