Renegade Hampster at Large

Hampsters are nocturnal. We had them when I was a kid. If they got loose, we waited til night & you'll find them easier. They chew a lot, so you should be able to hear it. They get a little wild when they are loose for a while, but they aren't too hard to catch. They will bite, so you should wear a heavy glove if your going to catch it by hand.

Good information. Was at the apartment just after dark but I won't hang out there for this distraction. No signs or noise that I've seen. After spending over an hour modifying a catch and release trap from "squirrel and rat" rated to something that would actually hold a hampster or rat, it's now in place and baited. So I'll check it each evening for a few nights. The trap had wire mesh with about 3/4" to 1" pattern, like that would hold an average size country rat. City rat perhaps. The door needed modifying to stay tight after closing. I added the 1/4" wire mesh over the entire outside. Whew. All for a rodent I'll be darn lucky to catch. I'll feel better though having tried.

However, if he touches that bait and isn't caught, it's curtains. I'll have to bring out the lethal stuff that I'm trying hard to avoid. I modified/feathered the trap release but I'm not convinced a hampster will trip it.
