Having coffee this morning and watching the sun rise over my heavily frosted garden, I decided today was the day to till it under. I considered using the plow, but really liked how the tiller does it all with only one implement hook up and basically no adjustments. So I swung by the local rental yard and scored the same tiller for $65, which is pretty reasonable for 9:30 AM Saturday until "any time before 5PM on Monday".

It sure made short work of the garden. It's easy to understand why I haven't seen any decent used ones come up for sale locally. I wouldn't sell mine if I had one either.

Maybe after Thanksgiving I'll start looking for a dealer with a leftover to move.

$65 is pretty good rental rate but I still like having my own so can use it whenever I get the whim without having to reserve ahead of time or run after it and return. I was lucky and found mine at a used equipment auction.

After close to a year of watching local ads for decent big name tiller to pop up used, I surrendered my hopes and picked up a new 6' King Kutter II that was on sale at the local farm store. It's uncrated and hooked to the tractor, but I still need to check length and install the pto shaft. If its not raining I hope to try it out this weekend.

The lower price is reflected in the fit and finish on these units when compared to the Deere tiller. It will be interesting to see how it performs compared to my fond memories of the rented 665 last year. After reading positive feedback from some owners on here I figured the King Kutter would be worth trying. Opting for the new KKII cost me about $500 less than the only used tiller that I have looked at and wanted to buy. Good used tillers are scarce.

The new 72" King Kutter II tilller worked great behind my CT335. The supplied pto shaft was the right length and no cutting was required. It took about 1/2 gallon of oil to get flow out of the tattle tale on the side gear box,and fill the top gear box up to about 1/2. A dipstick for the top gear box would be a welcome addition.

The tiller was very smooth and tilled the ground nicely. Overall I am very pleased with my new tiller. I'm glad that I did not spend more money for a used big-name brand tiller.

My wife actually gets credit for pushing me to go get the King Kutter when she saw it on sale. I thanked her today. She is a good one.
