United Rentals does small sized dozers and excavators. I think they limit the size on what they can haul without permits. Delivery is extra on the rental, and the rates I asked about where weekly and monthly. They base that on 8 hours a day. If you go over, you are charged more. I've never rented anything on daily basis with an hour meter that I ever came close to using 8 full hours in a day.
My dealers, Case and New Holland both rent equipment on a weekly and monthly basis. Cost where better then United Rental, and they rent bigger machines. The excavator I was pricing was a 20 metric tonne machine and it was $4,000 a week, plus fuel and delivery.
For me, it's cheaper to hire it out and let a pro do the work for something needing that big of a machine.
My neighbor has a 45 metric tonne machine pulling stumps on his land right now at $180 an hour. It just plucks them up as fast as he can grab them. It's taking longer to get them into a pile and burn them, then clean up the burn pile then it is to pull the stumps.
I bought a full sized, 80 hp 2wd loader backoe for $18,000 that had 2,000 hours on it to do most of everything I wanted done on my land. Turned out the be the most useful machine possible. If I was to do it again, and I might, I want 4wd and a cab.
