Here is one of the new dash arrangement. Sorry for some visible primer. This was the only area where I had "leaks" under the tape. This happened because two of the dash knobs I couldn't remove...felt like they were breaking. I thought it would be better to tape those off rather than to end up with no turn signl or light switch.

Not sure how deep into this repainting thing you want to get but I have repainted a number of restored cars and found that the HVLP (high volume low pressure) paint spray equipment works really well for reducing overspray and saving paint. For something like a tractor I would think you can go two ways on a paint job - either paint it with a spray can just to get something on it - or - paint it with a good polyurethane that will give you a great finish ( probably better than a new tractor) and will stand up to anything. Painting with the polyurethane will give you a great finish that will stand up to just about anything but is MUCH more involved than just whipping out the spray can. Dupont makes Imron which is used in painting many trucks and industrial equipment - you can check out information on Imron at the Dupont Paint site here

Here is the new oil sender location with the T for the new gauge also. Hopefully putting the oil sender pointed down doesn't casue any problem.

Because he own's it, he like's it and want's it to look it's best. I for one can understand his drive

Do you sell on eBay? Just wonderin

why would you question that...and just a guess here but if you would read the thread before asking you would understand that.

Sorry if this comes off bad...but with what you posted it just sounded rude

Dap,

Whiskey is right. I did this because I care for what I own. I want my wife's tractor to look good...she deserves that and more. She does 99% of the lawn cutting and should do it with a nice ride. Also my wife wants it done nicely...and I want my wife happy!!!

And although I bought the new front and rear rims and tires on Ebay, I have never sold on Ebay-tractors or anything else. I do not plan on selling this tractor. I plan this tractor to work for us for many more years.

Yes it was overkill, but I like doing (or at least trying to do) things right. I may not get perfect results but I do try.
.....and ya gotta admit it does look gooooood in green! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Whiskey....sorry I forgot. Yes I will send a few of the engine area. I'll try to take them before I loosen the nuts over the injectors to bleed the system.

Thanks for the extra snap shots...that came out great, only hope I can get mine that nice.

Hey let's not get hypersensitive. I'm glad you take care of what you own.

I my opinion however, if I'm proud enough to own, operate and care for a YM1500, then that's what it is. I would never dress it to appear to be sumpin else. Why not spiffy it up just like what it is?

Reminds me of all the lost teenagers who spend thousands of who know's whose dollars on their 4 cyl. 100 hp 1999 honda civics with muffler noisers, black light frame lights, roll cages, ground effect panels, illuminated window washer nozzles, lowering springs, racing seats - but the car still does 0-60 in 11 seconds.

That Yanmar feels shamed!

Great paint job though!

Looks great. Now you need a new steering wheel!
Same thing happened to me. Painted an old tractor we used for years. Came out looking so good I bought a new steering wheel and some other cosmetic stuff to make it look almost showroom.

Thanks Rich. I actually tried to loosen the steering wheel nut...but it is VERY rusted. I decided to leave it instead of breaking expensive parts. I actually wanted to remove it mostly to remove the instrument cluster for a better paint job. I may just try to clean it up a bit...maybe rubbing compund. The tractor may look nice but its job is to work. I wanted to paint it so it didn't rust away. My wife preferred the JD colors since that is what our other tractor is and that's what she grew up with on her family's farm.

Finish Photos!

It has been working regularly pulling the gang mowers for cutting about 4 or so acres....does a good job but will lug a bit up the hills. No problems with the temp...as long as 205 degrees is OK.

I finally finished the front wheels and tires that I got off ebay. They were from an older riding/lawn tractor. I had to "convert" 5 lug rims into 4 lug rims.....I know that's not the best way to do it but for the small amount of weight of this tractor and only $25 dollars for the rims and tires I think it is an "acceptable alternative." I had the rims blasted after I drilled new lug-nut holes. Then primed and painted as before.

The new turf tires REALLY "float" over wet areas. I have made no ruts and after the gang mowers are pulled over the tires tracks...ther ARE NO tire tracks. We are very happy so far. It used to take at least 5 hours to cut the yard with a 45" rider...it now takes 1-1.5 hours and we get a better finish.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
