Every time I respond to a post, I am directed to the login screen and must go through the logon process. (even after logging in at the start.) I've tried numerous computers with the same annoying results, so I'm guessing it must be something with my account. Any help out there??????

I doubt it's your TBN account.

What determines if you're logged in is a browser cookie. Do you have software installed on all these computers that prevents the creation of cookies, such as a IE security setting?

Nope. This is the only site giving me problems.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I haven't been logged in for quite some time (>6 months) and just recently started again.

I don't know what to tell you. The cookie is what determines whether you are logged in or not. The fact you are being asked to login again tells me something in your browser is deleting the cookie. The time since your last login wouldn't affect this. What browser are you using? Have you tried a different browser?

Internet Explorer v 6.0 in all cases. Never tried another browser.

I've tested it on...
two XP machines at home and
four XP Pro machines at work.

This is the only site that I've encountered thus far giving me fits. Thought maybe it was the TBN site.

The only thing I can think to try is to delete cookies and restart the browser.

Thanks Mike for your help. It doesn't make sense to me why it's acting the way it is.

When I have trouble with logins, I do this:

Log in as normal.
Log out with the Log Out button.
Clear your cookies and cache.
Restart the browser.
Come back to TBN, log back in and see what happens.

As suggested, I logged off, cleared the cookies/cache/etc/etc, closed the browser. Reopened TBN, went to the forums page, logged on and began typing this message in this thread. I'm now going to click "Submit Reply" and..........................

It's a little file put in your web browser cache by a website that you vist. When you leave a website and go back to it later, the website can check to see if you are, for instance, a unique user ID, logged in our out, what pages you have visited at thier website in the past, etc... it helps to make your visit to that website easier. Here's a link to a fairly decent wikipedia article on cookies.

Thanks MR for the explanation and the link. These cookies must get stale mighty fast as I am back to repeated logons.

I go through the process as posted earlier and it brings things back to normal, but what a pain to have to continually do this!

Not to change the subject but what's up with the posting times? What time zone are they based?

Bucky,

It sounds to me like you have a "cookie blocker" in your browser. Either that or you have a setting that deletes all cookies on closing your browser.

I don't know how to specifically how to tell you to fix this. You can turn off cookie blocking, or enter an "exception". Depends on which browser you are using.

Do a Google search for "IE turn off cookie blocker" or "Firefox turn off cookie blocker" and you should get headed in the right direction.

Bucky indicated in posts 10 and 11 that once he deleted cookies and restarted the browser, everything was working. There were a number of intervening messages about what cookies are and the fact all was working might have gotten lost. :)

Definitely no cookie blocker. I disabled that feature immediately when the problem first appeared.

Yes, I do have the "delete upon closing" feature enabled. (Don't want the hard drive filling up.)

Remember that I originally said the TBN site is only one giving me fits. No problems elsewhere.

Also, I'm not closing the browser. Remember that I initially logon to TBN before going to the forums and after that, every reply I make, requires a another logon process.

In post 11 you indicated it was working OK. Is it broken again. Also, cookies do not take up much disk space.
