Replace Pressure Switch???

I replaced the diaphragm pressure tank on my well water system,checked the pre-charge system,adjusted the cut in pressure to 2 below cut-in psi.When pump operates the pressure indicator does not travel to cut in & then increase pressure.The needle goes down to 18 & maintains that pressure. When the water is shut off the needle shows 22.There is no back & forth cut-in or cut-out click when operating. I would appreciate anyones diagnosis & thanks in advance!!

I sounds like the system is operating normally in that the pump is starting and stopping.

My first suspicion is a shot pressure guage. You can check the actual pressure off the schrader vavle on top of the tank.

If it isn't the gauge, give us a bit more info. What are your cut in/out settings? Are you getting acceptable pressure at fixtures??

It seems that the pressure switch is working, just not adjusted right.
Make sure you have a good pressure gauge and adjust the pressure switch according to the gauge and not a scale on the switch. Which have a history of being inacurate.

Also maybe when you are using water the pump will only keep up with the flow and not pump enought to shut off while you are still running water.

I'm a little confused. Are the pressure settings at 18psi and 22psi. Thats a little low if you ask me. My system is more like 38psi low and 50psi high. Are you sure the gage is correct?
