The only group 34 that will fit without modifying the hood latch mount plate (which just happens to be the battery hold down plate as well) is from Deere. The others have different notches in the plastic base plate of the battery and do/will not fit. Tried Napa, Autozone, Interstate. and one other that I can't remember.

That's interesting as I thought any group 34 battery should fit your 4720.

Yes so did I.
I was wrong.

It fit in the opening box area, but the tie down plate that Deere has which has also co-functions as part of the hood latch would not install as the cutout shapes on the base of the battery are not all the same. I spent a good amount of time checking/looking before I gave up and went to JD for the part. I would have had to modify the plate and I was not willing to do so at the time.

They will almost fit but you have to either trim the plate edge that holds the battery in place or elongate the holes for mounting the front plate. IIRC I chose to elongate the holes which leaves the plate sticking out about 1/8 inch or so.

Replaced with a Walmart everstart battery and cranks better than the oem battery.

My 2520 battery died the exact same way. I thought something else failed, because it went from working perfect to complete junk in one second.

Same thing happened to me with my 3720 a couple weeks ago. At 6 years and a couple months it is a perfectly good battery one second then it is good for a core charge the next. I went to NAPA and they had one about the same size but would have had to bungy cord it in the spot. JD had one for $79 I thing so I went to town and got it.

The bad thing about the instant dead batteries is if you are on the road or across town with it. Poof, no warning.

Update on my update: I thought the battery had failed but it tests out fine, 2 years and the $50 made in USA Duracell 22NR is still 100%. My problem, apparently like so many 2520 owners, was massive corrosion on the posts and cables. I don't open my hood all that much because I only use the tractor 30 or 40 hours a year, but man, this thing can build up corrosion fast. Now on my to do list is to clean the battery posts I guess maybe twice a year? I slathered them with dielectric grease, we will see how that works.
