The battery in my Kubota KX-121-3S mini-ex failed. I can't complain as it's lasted ten years, but even right off the charger it simply can't hold any juice.

The only markings on it are Yuasa 80D26R. Nothing about CCA. It is not a sealed unit, and I've kept the cells topped with distilled water throughout its life. LxWxH dimensions (to top of posts) are 10x6 5/8x9 inches.

I don't see that battery listed anywhere, including Yuasa's website. Google-Foo produces a lot of dead links and a few Asian sites that offer batteries "the same as" the one I'm looking for but with "nil warranty." Local Kubota dealer says they would have to look around.

Do I just look for a car battery matching those dimensions with as many CCA as I can find? Buy from Asia and hope for the best?

I've been replacing mine as they give up the ghost with Optima Yellow Top 51R. It is an AGM sealed battery, seems to have plenty of power, dimensions says L- 9.31", W- 5.06", H- 8.94". Previously I did use similar sized car batteries from COSTCO.

Well, the OEM battery did great. I'm surprised that the local Kubota dealer can't tell what group # the battery is. I would take the old battery to a battery store and have them match it up to a current AGM(associated glass mat) unit. The AGM will be a sealed battery and probably give you the best CCA.

Here are the stock specs:

Yuasa 80D26R - 15 Plate (Nil Warranty). 65AH - 15 Plate - Yuasa 80D26R. MYR 310.00. more info. Ecor 85D26R (MF) - 15 Plate (Warranty).

So, I agree with all. Any CCA above 65AH that fits

Sounds like a plan. For the average Joe, and I'm one of those, doing what you said is the reasonable approach to replacement. I just replaced my 10 year OEM battery in my 6530 with a $75 size 27 and it works great.

Go to Walmart, and buy their "Maxx Everstart" battery. Get the one with the most CCA that will fit in your tractor.
Walmart has a 36 month free replacement.
Or..... go to Home depot and buy the same sized battery there (but made by Exide). Exide offers a 40 month free replacement.
In either case, be certain to check the manufacture date shown on the battery.
Home Depot does not sell a lot of batteries, and their stock may be quite old.

I would just buy what fits with the highest CCA I could get.
Remember to check the orientation of the cables AND also the fine print on the warrantee. A lot of batteries' warranties won't cover the battery if it is used commercially or in equipment.

Good to see you're still around Pete!

Also see you've been enjoying the two wheel life.

Naw; got no advice on Batteries! You've probably figured that out on your own.

Had to replace my LS battery last winter. Usually just get a Walmart battery but this time they had none that exactly matched the size of the battery and due to the battery box it had to be exact. I went to NAPA and got the exact same size with higher CCA for cheaper than a similar sized battery at Wally World which was a bit surprising. The NAPA battery was also sealed top so no water to keep checked compared to the EverStart batteries that were not maintenance free.

Thanks for all the feedback. Took the dimensions to Napa and they had nothing in stock but could get it overnight. WalMart was way over in the Big City, and on the way I saw an Interstate battery store. Stopped in and they had a 700CCA battery with almost the exact dimensions as the battery holder on my mini-ex. Granted I got many years out of the original battery, but wow - that excavator came to life so fast I wasn't sure I had even turned the key yet!

All is well now.

Got any cold wind and snow, on the top of that (Craftsbury Common) hill?

I have always had godd luck at NAPA, if they don't have it they will get it. Ask for their discounts, never pay counter price. I get Military and fleet pricing whichever is better. Up to 50% non some stuff.

It's always windy up here! I suppose that's why they sited the windmills on the far hill. Still have about two feet of snow on the ground. 49F yesterday. Snowing today.

I like NAPA. When I had my '57 Dodge pickup with a flathead six they had the oil filters in stock. The NAPA part number was 6.
