Yes, it is that simple. When antique tractor guys do this they usually weld up the old hole completely then drill a new hole in a different location. You can grind the weld smooth the the repair will be difficult to find.

Sure beats the heck out of $200 for a new rim.
I had a rice-patty Kubota a few years back and both front rims were pretty rusted-out in the valve-stem area. I had new tires and took them to a tire dealer, who told me I had to have new rims. One of his workers came over and whispered to me that he knew a guy that could fix them, but I went and bought new rims anyway. I should have listened to that guy I guess and I would have a few hundred more dollars in my pocket.

Now that I have my head removed from my butt and know I can fix them....I am going to run mine until I have to. I have one front that is rusted out a little but the others are okay.
These old tires are not totally gone, so I think I will get a little more mileage out of them and then put some new ones on with the wheel-fix....if I last that long. Or...at least wait until I have a flat.

I'd fix them sooner than later.. the rusty metal will rip the tubes.
you can weld a washer in there once you grind all the rust out.. good place for a valve stem hole..

Washer....now that is another very good idea!
I am still fooling around with the steering box, but I don't want us to bring that into this thread. Been waiting on a part for two weeks....suppose to be here this week and then I can worry about tires after I make it go in the direction I am aiming.
