Replacing a disk

I cracked a disk on my #25 and have a spare laying around ... curious what the easiest way to get it out of there ?

I was initially thinking to just take the bolt off the axle give it a couple taps so its past the broken disk, replace the disk and put it all back. This has however given me a bit of trouble in that the nut is on there good and strong and cant seem to keep the assembly from spinning when give it a pull.

So will I be stuck taking hte entire assembly off the pillars and cranking on it that way or am I missing something simple ?

If you have a square axle, you could put a pipe wrench on one of the spools to keep in from turning while you back off the nut. Heat always helps break the nut loose along with something like WD 40 or Fluid Film. A Impact wrench will also work without spinning the whole gang. Ken Sweet

Are you sure you are loosening the nut and not tightening, one side might be reverse threads. I believe the left side (as facing it) is reverse cuts on our old disk, We had a heck of a time turning it, till the washer underneath finally cracked and split we realized we were turning it the wrong way....... amazing how tight you can get things with a breaker bar ain't it?

Ya on the gang im working on I can see the threads and am working with them to pop it off, even with the impact wrench this bloody thing is not moving. And by hand I can't stop it from turning ... I tried a propane torch on the nut but I don't think it got hot enough to make a difference ... so I soaked it with penetrating oil and will give it some time and another go in an hour or so

A bit of time and more wd-40 and it came right off ... turned out my air tool wasn't up to the task so I "had" to add an electric one to my collection ha

The axle is a 1" x 0.9" rectangle, the hole on the disks however is 1" square. The disks are around 15 1/2" wide give or take. Will replace them next year as they will be fine for the current season.

Another good penetrant is Kroil, it makes WD 40 look like water. Kinda like a Turbocharged Fluid Film on steroids.

liquid wrench, then use a pipe wrench and lump hammer, thats how I got all 4 gangs apart

pb buster or even transmission fluid makes wd 40 look like gasoline.
