My tractor does not have a ignition key. It only has a start switch. My problem is how to wire voltmeter in so it will not be on all the time?

Make an ignition switch by adding a switch in series with start switch.

It has an oil pressure switch that supplies power to the gauges and "ignition" type circuits when the engine is running. You can tie the voltmeter to that and it will function when the engine is running.

Was wondering, can I also use this same connection for exciting my alternator circuit to start charging my battery?
