MEDICSHAWN, you said you bought the L3940, is it considered rude to ask what you paid for the L3940 and FEL, naturally as our implements are different our overall cost will also.

thanks

Greg

Thanks MEDICSHAWN, just spoke with Neil from Messicks here in Pa., he quoted me the same price as you. So my local dealer, from whom I'v purchased before was looking to charge me $1669.00 more for a tractor with 5 h/p less. And thats just the tractor, I am pretty sure I can do better on price of the Brush Hog, Roto-Tiller & Finish Mower that they quoted me also.
As the Giecko commercial says "You guys saved me a ton of money",
I'll have to send you guys an invite to our summer Pig Roast/Pool Party.

Thanks all

Greg

I don't know where you are in relation to Messicks but they seem like they would be good to deal with.. I've orderd some parts from them and prices are reasonable and service was good. I personally bought from Barlows. He charges a dollar a mile for delivery and sometimes he can combine trips and save even more. With tax savings basically delivery was free. I bought from Brady and got good service.

Sometimes the price difference is units that have been sitting on the lot while other new units cost the dealer more. I think in the grand line it basicall cost 2000 to step up to the next larger unit. So take my price and add 2000 to get to 4240 pricing. When I was looking I got quotes on 3540 3940 and 4240. I jumped on the 3940 it met my needs and the price was right.

Going with the L3940 GRAND LA724 FEL, going to price out finish mowers, brush hogs, back hoes and tillers.
Any opinions on MMM vs RMM would be welcomed, i am accustomed to rear mount brush hogs but no experiance with finish mowers, have always used Craftsman riding mowers.
Would also welcome any feedback on prices i should expect to pay for
finish mower-tiller-back hoe.

Thanks again for all the info

Call Brady at Barlows he delivered my L39 to MI. for less than it would have cost me to drive down and trailer it back since he already had a delivery coming my way. So dont rule them out just because they are far away. They are top notch over there.

I ran a rear finish mower back in the early 90's, and thought it was a bit of a pain. Had a 60" mid mount mower on my recent subcompact, and my opinion is that on these real tractors, the MMM is still the way to go.

You can get a lot closer to trees, shrubs, etc. with less stopping, backing, turning, etc. It's just better on a finished lawn. 3pt brush hogs are fine for rough mowing, as everything doesn't need to be perfect. But a MMM is just easier on a typical manicured lawn around a house with trees, shrubs, and other landscaping features.

Now, if you've got acres of finished lawn with few obstacles, then maybe a RFM would be fine. But the more maneuvering you have to do while mowing, the easier and faster the MMM is. At least in my experience.

On the finish and brush hog mowers, you might want to read the thread in attachments entitled, let's talk flail mowers. A lot of the guys on that thread bought the Caroni flail mower which gives a cut almost as good as a finish mower and can be used to cut brush up to a few inches in diameter, plus, they're much more compact than a bush hog or even finish mower. Depending on what you need to cut with both mowers, you might be able to get a way with just a flail mower.

Edit: couldn't find the above mentioned thread, but here's one on the Caroni flail.

For your size tractor I would go with a rear finishmower. It would be easier to hook up than the midmount. I used to have a landpride rear discharge finish mower and I really liked the way it cut. also if you found the L3940 too heavy to mow with you would have a much easier time selling the rear finish mower.
