I am looking at a Ford 1700 that has a FEL, structurally everything seems solid although most of the paint is gone but it looks like a Ford 770. The loader needs hooked up and the lines need replaced from the 2 lever control valve to the loader. Fittings are fairly rusted at the control valve, someone just cut the lines when they took it off, I am assuming they decided not to mess with getting the lines loose. The levers are free both ways on the control valve but I am thinking of replacing it with a 2 spool joystick loader valve while I am at it. New to tractors so I cannot seem to find what GPM I would need on the control valve to price for sure, something that is like 13gpm or 25gpm. I did not know if more gpm is better or worse for a smaller tractor like the 1700.

13 GPM should be fine for that tractor.
I don't know what the pump output is in GPM, but I am sure for a tractor that size, a 13 GPM valve is very satisfactory.

The one issue when buying a loader valve is do you need or will you want in the future to have a power beyond feature.

The "Do you need" question is answered by the number of lines on the existing valve. 6 and it is not using power beyond. 7 and power beyond is essential.

Many valves can be easily converted to power beyond by use of a special sleeve or plug.

If you do not need PB now but might in the future, buy a valve with the feature and also the special sleeve or plug but then do not install the PB stuff now.

Finding the appropriate sleeve or plug at a future date can be difficult and the cost for the sleeve or plug is usually less that $50.

Also do you want float? Not all valves are created equal.

The GPM is not listed in the specs noted above. I would be surprised if it was more than 4-5 GPM. Remember, that's only a 2-cylider 20hp tractor. See if there's a block off plate on the left side of the engine. Ford put those on tractors to run a secondary pump. The pumps are a little pricey because they're gear driven but it's a pretty simple add-on. You'll just have to make sure you can supply it with enough hydraulic oil. Some FELs use the towers for oil tanks.
