Buying Advice Replacing golf cart with bed - RTV 400 or rtv 500 ?

   / Replacing golf cart with bed - RTV 400 or rtv 500 ? #21
Been looking for 2 months, ready to purchase, wife says just bring home the one she will use. Only have 4 acres, but some relatively steep areas where cart slips and I end up getting the tractor to tug the cart. My wife will not go in steep areas due to traction loss of golf cart. I want to use for spraying and wife will use for planting, gardening and moving items around the property. My wife will use 3/4 time so ease of use is very important. ------------------

She's not interested to test driving, speed is very secondary, turf tires only. Thoughts before I make a 10K mistake.
This is the one that my wife liked the best for ease of use. Only one lever for forward, neutral, reverse. 4WD is automatic, it runs open differential, switches to 4WD if needed, and locks either or both differentials it if needed.

Xfaxman,

You started me looking at the Bobcat 2200 / Club Car XRT 1550. 3 questions..
1) How does the UTV manage going down steep slopes - specifically engine braking without Hydro Trans. 2) with the Kubota Diesel under the seat, is the noise level excessive - I know that is subjective question. 3) slow speed operation - spraying etc, smooth, not jerky? Like you might get with high HP gas UTV. 4) Thoughts - no separate hi / lo range - I would appreciate your thoughts.

I spoke with a guy that has a 2011 RTV500 with 650 hours for sale for $6500...

Looks clean but seems on the high side... he said if he still has it in a few weeks to call him back.

I often wished I had power steering on my Mule and once almost had an accident, on a difficult hill, with one hand occupied holding something. What I do know, is that I am certain that I would not like the cost to repair it, if and when it failed.

Guess I'm spoiled in that even my BX has power steering and steering is effortless.

No problem. It has engine braking through the CVT, just keep the RPMs up at the top, to keep the clutch engaged.

2) with the Kubota Diesel under the seat, is the noise level excessive - I know that is subjective question.

The 3 cylinder diesel was louder than the 2 cylinder gas engine. That was the main thing that my wife didn't like about it.

3) slow speed operation - spraying etc, smooth, not jerky? Like you might get with high HP gas UTV.

Very smooth and powerful.

4) Thoughts - no separate hi / lo range - I would appreciate your thoughts.

It has plenty of low speed grunt and is fast enough for a "work" machine.

It was the only machine on the place that I never got stuck. My wife used it several times to pull me out when I tried to mow too close to the pond with the TORO.

Go drive one and let us know what you think.

Club Car made it for several other brands, just look for the aluminum frame.

The 500 must be a demo or as new?

What are they looking to get if I may ask?

The 650 hour one here at $6500 just seemed a little high and the owner said don't waste my time as the price is firm and has run off a lot of people waving $5,000 in front of him.

Post pictures if you have a chance...

The 500 seems to be rare breed here... the dealers all have one 400 and then jump to the 900.
