Replacing regular with GFCI. - Solved Thanks All

We have a winner! This is exactly what it was. The upstairs 1/2 bath that is rarely used is the one where they put the GFCI on the circuit. All fixed. My wife thanks you.

+1 on @jyoutz whole house surge protector is relatively cheap and effective.
I had the whole house surge protector installed after a power surge destroyed a washing machine. So far, no more issues with surges.

You are probably glad that you posted here BEFORE replacing the receptacles... which is what I would probably have done. 👍

I have 2 outside GFCI receptacles that were not actually on their own circuit and found out the aggravating way when they both tripped when you plugged in. The 3rd outside one didn't. Turns out that the breaker marked 'Outside' only fed that 3rd one (North). The East one was fed off one of the Kitchen circuits that was already GFCI receptacle protected, and the South one was fed from the Bathroom(s) that were protected via a GCFI breaker in the panel, that would also trip randomly.

My inspector would not allow an outside GFI fed from an inside kitchen GFI circuit.

Code evolves as newer versions adopted...

I've found zero issue with Hubbel GFCI but they tend to be the most expensive.

At one time all my defective GFCI confined to Levington.

Have not done a major project in 12 years so information dated.

Have you seen many of the GFCI that fail, and when you remove them from the wall box, they are exploded because the 4 little long screws holding them together have failed?

I've replaced about 250-300 of them in the past 5 years. Don't know what brand they are, but yikes.

Yikes! Sounds Cary even with the power off.

I have had a few of the Levington GFCIs cease to work, but no meltdowns or failures. I would like to continue that trend.;)

All the best,

Peter

Some just won't trip and others fall apart and others stuffed so tight in j-box too small.

I would say exposure to elements contributing factor.

Tenant was very upset when fourth of July refer stopped spoiling 4th of July food.

Tenant had a very large refrig that didn't fit in the alcove so new location plugged into GFCI which tripped.

Upon investigation GFCI working properly... Refer was dirty with lettuce debris blocking drain so condensate pooled and spilled onto condenser fan tripping GFCI...

I found so many of them failed with the screws pulling out that I started looking for recalls to see if my employer could get some money back. All of them were apparently around 20 years old. Next time I get one I'll post pictures.
