Replacing Sector Shaft on 1300D Red Hood

She's a Beauty!! This tractor may be #1 worst deal ever for a Yanmar.............. He may part it up and get 1/3 of that asking price. Then you actually look at the steering wheel and that might be doubtful. SMDH.

Pulled it back up and took a good look at it on my last reply. And really the only reason I mentioned it was i never heard of that part being a very common problem so it maybe good . New it was rough is why I mentioned the price. Not much there. Hard parts since everything else has been BTH. and back......

Hey kmh234!

There's your steering box, complete, right there!

Take a trailer. There might even be other usable parts.
As tempting as that is, I live in northern california. Kind of a long drive! Maybe I'll call the guy and see if he'd be willing to part it out.... never hurts to ask.

Another long shot to try: When I replaced the steering box on my prior YM186D I googled a casting # I saw on the side of the box and found mention of it in a forum where someone was restoring a Datsun 240Z. The trademark logo on my box matched his. So Yanmar must have been using a generic steering box supplied to Japanese car manufacturers as well. Going down that rabbithole might take a lot of investigation. I ended up buying a rebuilt steering box from Hoye.

PM sent, re a scrapyard that said he is now out of business. He would have had a steering box. If you get a useful reply from him, who he sold his inventory to or something, please post it here.

Thanks for all the great information! I'll check out the 240Z option.

Also, for anyone interested in the CL ad lead, we called the guy and he was willing to sell the steering box for the asking price of the tractor... so probably a no-go, but that'd be a great parts tractor for someone who lives closer to the guy!

That things local and real close. There's 2 Fredrick supplied dealers 30 min. from there. Been on CL. a month or so. It's not going anywhere. 750 for the steering plus shipping.🤐 One reason I jumped on my Ym2000 was the American model basically and parts avail. It was in such good condition Spalding kept it Org. UTDA back then even... I still chuckle to the day when I asked steve were he got it. Mumbled a little but really wouldn't say. I handed him a Chk. for his asking price no Negotiation........... knowing what I gave for it from a dealer that 750 is insane. Not going anywhere. Not even to Ca..........
