I have a DK45 that i have to hold the shifter in forward gear or it will jump back to neutral with any slight strain. I have been told that it is probably a bent shift fork. It does not jump out of reverse. Can any tell me if i will have to separate the tractor to do this? It looks to me that i can just remove the deck and column and get to it from the top. Any suggestions?

Check your transmission drain for any small 1/4 moon shaped steel keys. These are the synchronizer keys for the shifter. If you find the keys, you will probably need to replace the synchronizers in the shifter. That requires splitting the tractor. The fork can be replaced without splitting.
