Replacing the BX1850 hood with a BX1860 hood

Well I welded on two hooks today. They work well. Unfortunately I ran over a small branch and it broke my cooling fan in the rear. Have you guys made any skid plates?

Did you by chance purchase the Kubota insurance KTAC to cover the cost of the HST cooling fan that you broke (minus the $250 deductable)? Hopefully so since I have read that the $10 replacement fan is costly to install since the engine has to move foward a few inches unless this is a project you can tackle on your own.

I haven't made my own skid plates but have owned both BXpanded and Bro-Tek: Tractor Add Ons. They both work well and I am currently using BXpanded's Under Armor. Just an idea if you decide to not make your own.

Thavil, no I did not buy insurance. I recently purchased the tractor used. I plan on replacing the fan myself. I'll let you know how it goes. Btw am I posting in the right area? I'm new here. I'll look into those skid plates you mentioned. Thanks

Radioman , that looks good. I can do that. How about a pic of it on the tractor?

I'm glad that you have the skills to replace the fan yourself, I know I don't. Do a search here on TBN and you will find a few really good posts on what it takes to replace the fan. A workshop manual for your BX1850 may come in handy also.

If you didn't already know, you can still buy the KTAC insurance even though you purchased used. It doesn't cost much but covers almost anything (less $250 deductable) to include your tractor off your property (unlike homeowners insurance). It doesn't cover liability though.

Yes, you are posting in the correct sub-forum for your topic. There are many knowledgable people here and you will usually get great answers.

The KTAC on my BX is only a little over $100 a year. Yes you are posting in the right spot.

The hood was damaged before I purchased the tractor. It's all cosmetic damage, runs and functions great. I'm working on buying new parts, and also hoping a used one pops up. The previous owner was pushing a pile of lumber and a 4x4 slid up and caused the damage. The first thing I put on the tractor was the new front grill guard.

Keep an eye on ebay and craigslist. I have seen them pop up every now and then.

So I finally got around to replacing my hst fan. It was a bit harder than I thought it would be. I did cheat a little and drilled a whole in the deck above the fan. That saved some work of taking it off to remove the bolt thru the shaft coupling. I found that the coupling had broken in the past and I never knew it. I did have to pull the engine up and forward to make room.
