No contamination issue, go right over it. I did three more rods this afternoon.
I have lots of scrap rods, too bad you are so far away.

What would you want to ship me a few?

Only the cost of shipping. You want small slugs to practice on? I could do a USPS flat rate box. Larger rods could get pricey to send….lol

Sure. Price is always a concern. Give me an idea, medium or small flat rate? And how to pay for them.

Here’s one of many I’ve done this past couple of weeks.
This bucket cylinder rod today from a 88k lb Cat machine. 130mm rod x approx 7’ long. It’ll be going back together in the am.

Edit: from a 145k lb machine (Cat 365)

And another weld up on a valve spool. This pic shows the corrosion before.

I have heard of clear nail polish or super glue being used but I have not ever tried. This was a suggestion from a random auto mechanic that seemed a bit out there. Might be able to google those and see if any results pop up. Stabilizer cylinder would be about the best spot I could think of to try something like that as it’s not being extended and retracted as much.
