I completely understand and appreciate the welding with a 120v welder that some are doing here, I used one for years and years until it wore out, I had a lincoln 110v and it's all I could afford at the time and I made it work. Yes it took longer but it worked and worked good, I built winch bumpers, Wood stoves that still work today and imo you become a better welder cause that's all you have and you make it work!

Thats the spirit. Sometimes I wonder how some fellas get anything done, maybe members who git-er done don't sit at the computer thus are not represented well in the forum. On that note I better git ! Was supposed to be in the truck at 5AM :D May try welding 3/8 again with 5 stringer welds if I get time.

On a weekend when we've heard jinman has passed away, it'd be nice if everyone who posts in the Welding forum could learn from him. jinman offered his advice free from comments, snide or otherwise, about other people's posts. Jinman knew other members were more than capable of properly evaluating who is posting and what they're reading. As those who knew him, he was a very knowledgable gentleman, a gentle man and posted as he must have spoken, if he wouldn't say it to your face, he wouldn't type it.

A little off topic, but I learned to weld when I was a kid on a 120v machine in the 1950s. It just had two big resistors in a ventilated box. They would glow red hot when welding. My dad had to put a 30A fuse in the panel or it would blow. It would have had plenty of OCV, but I didn't know about that stuff then. My, how times have changed. Carry on.
