Return hose for rear detent valve?

Buying my first tractor a Bobcat CT2025 (Kioti CK2610). I am having a pair of remote hydraulic valves added, a spring and a detent.

Hydraulics are a whole new animal to me. I have borrowed family tractors, but just ran them without paying too much attention to anything.

In reading on the board I believe there is a risk with activating the lever for the detent valve when nothing is attached and this leading to heat buildup and potential pump damage. The spring valve does not have this concern. A solution is to just run a short loop of hydraulic hose so if the detent valve lever is accidentally pushed, the hydraulics just flow. Please correct any of this I have wrong.

Assuming a loop would be a good protection feature, what do I need? Length, diameter, couplings on end? Any reason not to get a cheap version off Amazon or at Tractor Supply? (I am assuming if I ask the Bobcat Dealer to make one up, it will be more expensive).

Appreciate your shared knowledge.

Edited title as unsure if detent valve is float

In an open center system or a closed center system placing a control valve in the float position does not direct pressurized fluid to either port,
both ports are open to the return on the implement side of the valve.

A detented valve can be accidentally be left in a detent which is directing fluid to a work port,
if that port is closed or fully operated and then left detented the fluid is dead headed and using a relief valve to return to the sump which can lead to over heating and potentially other issues.

If it's float detent, I would not worry about it at all.

On my JD detent SCVs, the lever will pop out of detent and back to neutral when full system pressure is reached. So for my grapple. I can put the lever to open or close in detent, and when the cylinder is to end of it's travel (extended or retracted) the lever will pop back to neutral.

You don't need that loop. When the spool is in the float position, both cylinder ports and pump ports are open to tank. That means that it won't be tripping the relief valve and heating up your oil.

The worst that will happen is that the 3pt won't work. Which is fine- you'll eventually notice and figure it out.

If you had a plain non float detent like is used to power attachments like 3pt log splitters, then accidentally putting it in detent with nothing plugged in would route all the fluid through the relief. In that case your 3pt would also not work. The difference would be that it's heating the oil, and that the whole system in front of the remote valve will be at the pressure the relief is set to, so the loader won't work correctly either.

Tripping the relief for a short period of time is not a big deal. I can usually hear it but that depends on the valve and your hearing.

Bobcat does not have a float valve for rear remotes listed in parts catalog. The detent valve would be for constant to attachment, so yes a loop hose is a good idea.

The plate on top of your 2030 scv can be reversed so the valve can be placed in detented float position.

Thanks I think you may be right it is not a float detent. I have been trying to figure that out. Salesman is new to tractors and I trust responses here more than from him, but he does do research if I ask.

Best I can find of the description is, “4 port remote hydraulic (detent/spring)”. So I am not sure if it is a float detent valve. Looking at the Bobcat parts catalog it is the double acting valve kit part number 7378619. Bobcat Genuine Parts Catalog – Official Bobcat Company site. Tried to link to parts page, but seems to default to general page

If you need float (like for top or tilt cylinders or a verge mower) or detent (like for a log splitter) make sure you're getting the right thing.

If you do end up wanting to make a loop, you can buy the parts from surplus center or discount hydraulic hose. You'll need a hose, a couple male ag couplers, and possibly some fittings. It's pretty simple.

Thanks everyone, I heard back from Bobcat and it is a constant flow detent. Tractor is scheduled to arrive at dealership tomorrow and then a bit for them to sort things out.

I will put a loop together.
