Revenge of the mailbox

Having a hard time following this thread when I look at the rural boxes around here mounted on anything from and old Deere plow to a Packard 12 cylinder crankshaft... even a very large ocean going ship anchor.

Somehow these have all been around my entire life and are still in use... some of the high end country estates have brick or stone encased boxes that are adjacent to the entry gates.

The part about getting sued is always a possibility... I got sued when a city tree raised the sidewalk and a aluminum can scavenger tripped in the middle of the night going through my garbage recycling... and scavenging is clearly against the law by city ordinance by PD will not enforce it.

My Insurance took care of it... this is why I have insurance and a homeowner policy really does cover a lot of things.

Re: cameras.

A camera never stops a crime, it only helps solve it.

I'd rather prevent it before it happens.

How about a "Smile for the camera" sign next to the mailbox?

:)

I already said that! That sign makes me laugh whenever I see it. If people knew the harsh penalties involved if they got caught they wouldn't do it.

It's worth repeating.

Rig up something like this.
Make and paint a plate that is hinged and bolted to the side of your mail box. Put a bag that is capable of holding air between mail box and the plate. A suitable hose is connected from air bag going down the post to a pressurized container of skunk urine/scent- glow in the dark paint- bright orange paint- any florescent paint.
Fan nozzle of the pressurized container is placed 1'-2' away from the post, 2' high and along side the road and is concealed at the end of a flower bed.
Bat hits plate-air is forced out of bag to pressurized container switch which then instantly releases the scent/paint, what ever you use and then, it gets sprayed along the entire car-truck
The right parts should make this work very well. Be sure to check it every morning, bright and early! That way
you can hide the evidence.
This might work with a camera and flash. Instead of releasing paint, it would push the button on a camera. They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
A picture of a mail box being smashed and the smasher should be worth a thousand dollar fine!
