Too bad you’re a little distance from me. Our shop is setting up a 100 hp hydraulic test bench this next couple of weeks. That pump would be perfect to try out.

Lol.......not that kind of motor. It traveled from Billings MT and it won’t be moving anywhere soon. Electricians are wiring it this week.

We’re hoping, it will test pumps and motors dynamically up to 100 gpm/5000 psi. Having a soft start installed to keep the elec man happy.

I struck out in finding any parts breakdown documents for those older transmissions. I did find a technical data sheet for the TA1919 series which I believe was similar to the TA1515 and they do show exactly what you are describing in having the vane pump as external charge. So I agree with your finding that you will have to change rotation on the vane pumps but hydrostatics might operate in either direction. Not 100% convinced since still not sure if the port plate, or lens plate is the same on both.

The TA1919 uses a wafer plate that is right or left, if it was his case the two wafer plates could be swapped around between the pumps. But as he says I seem to recall the TA15 pump rotating group is directly riding on the housing, similar to PVB series piston pumps. Not sure, but just an educated guess.
Here is a pic of the TA19 wafer plate, you can see they come in left or right config
