bluetc30:

Welcome to TBN :D! I do not have a Land Pride reverse tine tiller, but I seriously considered one when I upgraded tractors and tillers. Somewhere in Land Pride's literature I was left with the impression that RT tillers worked best in prepared soil. I live in New England and I have to deal with my new crop of rocks when I till Spring and Fall. It is my opinion that a forward spinning tiller would tend to "throw" rocks and "bounce" over boulders/ledge when breaking new ground (which I often do) better than a reverse spinning tiller. I would think that a RT tiller would tend to require more PTO and tractor HP as it is "working" against the direction of movement, but with the same "logic" it would probably pulverize the soil better. Land Pride makes good products. I have rarely seen negative comments in TBN threads and my local tractor dealerships carry their product lines. Having said all this I have a CCM M-160 (58") tiller.

Good luck on your research and remember that we at TBN are more than willing to help you spend your hard earned money . Jay

I have a Kobota reverse tine tiller and it is outstanding I have landspride forward tine tiller and it is also an excellent machine but does not condition the soil as well as reverse tine unit. I wanted to purchase a Landspride unit but the lead time was 5 weeks the Kobota was one week same price as Landspride. Reverse tine units tend to kick out rock to the side that it does not bury.I would say either a Landspride or Kobota unit would more then meet your needs.

Yes I have a rtr2562, have had it since 94 and think it has been a good tiller.
It has seen what most would call "commercial" use on gardens, lawns, fields for wildlife food plots.

If you will just use it at home it should last a lifetime.

mine is still going, every blade had been replaced about 4 times, and is on the second drive chain and sprockets.

pros IMO:

-more efficient, large chunks of dirt that do not pass thru screen are retilled till they do.

-pushes rocks (as small as an orange to softball) forward until kicked out the side or row is finished, in effect actually rids area of rocks.

cons-will occasionally pick up a rock, root, model t tire and jam between blade and tiller roof. these have to be just the right size except for the tire to jam.

Cons- a negligible one at that but does work against tractor

yes I would get another LP reverse till

I have a Kubota 52" reverse tine tiller. Similar to the LP. It does a great job. It does have some things that should be considered before purchasing.
  1. 4WD is required to move tractor forward.
  2. Large rocks can get caught between tines and tiller frame. This makes a slip clutch an requirement.
  3. Getting a finished job may take more than one pass if there is a lot of grass/weeds in area to be tilled.
  4. HST or very low first gear are required to allow proper tilling.

I do not have a reverse tiller, but I think a PTO shaft clutch is needed with any tiller. Mine came with one. The con to the reverse tiller from my view is the price. I did not think it was worth an extra $800.

I bought a Howse tiller. They may not be top of the line but it does somethng the other brands don't do, or I haven't seen yet and that it does both forward or reverse tilling. It's a gear drive unit, 62 inch width and weighs 790lbs.
