I finally got some free time today and reversed my rear tires on my 2520. I can't believe the difference this has made. I wish i would have did this the first day i brought it home. The 3 point arms don't come anywhere near the tires now and when i was mowing my hillside a huge difference. I usually mow down as far as i feel comfortable and push mow the rest. Today i took a whole other 62" pass down further. This is going to save me a ton of push mowing time!

What do you think you gained? An inch on each side?

Just curious.

Do you have R-3 turf tires? Those are the only type you can reverse. If you have R-1 ags or R-4 industrials, you should swap them side to side as they are unidirectional.

My left 3 pt arm used to touch my tire when i pushed on it. Now it's about an inch away from it when i push it torward the tire. Roy, I do have R4s and I did swap them side to side. I should have been more clear on that.

After you reversed the tires, can you tell me how wide they are edge-to-edge? I'm waiting for my 2720 to be delivered and I'm thinking of asking the dealer to reverse my tires prior to delivery. I'm planning to use chains and want the extra clearance.

Thanks!

I'd like to try reversing the rear tires on my 2520, also, but I thought I better ask the experts here first: Where did you place the jack to lift the back of the 2520 off the ground? And where did you place jack stands to safely hold the tractor off the ground? :licking:

I put the jack directly under the draw bar bracket and jack stands under the axle just inboard of the hubs.
Unless you're planning to use a floor jack to move the tires, you don't need to jack too high.
BTW, break the wheel bolts loose (but don't remove them) before you jack...and just snug them when reinstalling. Do the final torque when the tires are mounted and the tractor is on the ground.
This job goes a lot easier with two men.

I believe this might be what Roy was speaking of.

I changed my tires back to the wide position this spring when I changed my transmission oil. I understand I may be opposite of most others in that during the winter is when they desire the extra clearance but I prefer the narrow in the winter since I only have the 47" SB and do not require chains.

Like others, I prefer the wide for the extra stability.

I hope this helps.

Roy and Lost, Thank You for the replys. Pictures are good, and reminded me that I should wait until I get some transmission/hydraulic oil and change the tires and hydraulic oil all at the same time.

Losr, is there a reason you have the ballast on while changing tires?

Not sound like the safety police, but don't forget the jack stands. Unlike a car the front axle pivots which allows the tractor to rotate on the jack.

I was doing a similar tasks on my tractor, I was almost finished, I reached under to just tighten the oil filter back on. the tractor rotated from the tightening force on the filter and it slipped off the jack and fell on me catching me on the chest on it way down. I think I only lived to tell about it because it happen so slowly that I was able to slip out of the way before I recieved all of the crushing force. I was bruised up bad for Weeks. Just be careful.
