Reversed Rims On The PT-425

I like the look of the PT-425 with reversed rims, and I'm sure the increased stability is worthwhile. Unfortunately, the 52" track would be a problem with the 48" mower, not to mention being a little too tight around our trees.

Too bad, because I think I would go ahead and do it, otherwise.

I assume you just simply turn the wheel around and mount it to the tractor - right?
again assuming the tires are not uni directional - right?

Oh one quick one off subject - but I will throw it in for lack of starting a new thread

Does anyone have a better oil suggestion for the Kohler 25hp for the summer? other than synthetic

Also if anyone is interested the hydraulic oil filter for the 425 the number in Fram is P1653A or Napa 1551, at $8, no shipping and a simple trip to the auto parts store - it beats ordering it from PT

For the sake of learning, could someone show me by a free body diagram or something like it that there is really a difference in force, other than it's reversed on the wheel bearings?

Not sure what you mean by a "free body diagram". However, my understanding of the issue is very simple. By widening the tread (reversing wheels) you increase the lever arm length and increase the force on the bearings.

Purolator H32010

Wix part numbers are usually the same as Napa, but preceded with a 5, so the Wix should be a 51551

I wouldn't put a Fram on anything I own. A few years ago, a car enthusiast conducted his own survey of oil filters and posted it to the Internet. Googling will usually find a copy of the results.

He tore the filters apart and examined them to see how well they were made. By his account, the Frams were real cheapies.

I've also seen a post by an individual claiming to be an ex Allied Signal (Fram's owner) engineer that went into some detail about the cheapening of the Fram filter line. He claimed the company was dedicated to lowering the cost of production above all else, and the results were minimally performing filters.

I had no way to verify the veracity of this guy, but his claims seemed in line with what the guy doing the filter survey found, so I put Fram on my do-not-buy list.

I buy only Wix, Napa, Purolator, and Toyota--which I believe are made to spec by Purolator. I will also buy Kohler and B&S filters, if I can't find an after market version made by one of the above.

Anybody know anything about Baldwins?

I think I read the same info on the filters tests...been using Purolator for years with no problems on some fairly high mileage cars(I always run 'em till they quit).....is the filter the same for the 422?

I hope the overwhelming concensus is there is no harm done by doing this. I can't cut my grass because the inside stem on the front left tire where the brush cutter slings the grass builds up and tears the stem off. It's happened three times in less than a week. I've called Terry at Power Trac and he's going to send me a couple of plugs to replace the inside stem since no one around where I live seems to have anything like that.

I did ask Terry about reversing the rims but he didn't like that idea even though it would solve my problem. Regards.

Dunno. The PT-425 Power Trac part number is FO63-1. If the 422 part number is the same, I think it would fit.

"" the hydraulic oil filter for the 425 the number in Fram is P1653A ""

Where or how did you determine this #??

Does Power Trac approve of using a non-PT filter??

It may fit, but is it the proper suction or pressure or whatever type??
