I know. My manual says NOT to reverse the front rims.

But in theory only if I was moving and wanted to put the L3301 on a Penske trailer with rails that measured 42" minimum and my fronts measured 37" maximum, sure seems like a good way to gain the needed 5"!

The trailer is rated at 4050 lbs capacity so this is the only hurdle I'm looking at. I'm going to take the L3301 HST with FEL and filled tires down to the scales this week to weigh it but armchair figuring puts it's weight as lower than that.

If you're just doing it for a move, and you aren't doing it while working and moving heavy loads with a bucket you should be just fine to reverse the front rims.

Yup, I wouldn't sweat it.

This is the way I would do it as well. You can lift the front with the bucket to do the swap easily.

You can lift the front with your loader, but use jack stands under the axle. 1 for safety, and 2 for stabilizing the front end. Otherwise it will flop around while you work.

Doesn't the bucket stabilize it?

Raising the tractor with the FEL stabilizes the tractor but not the front axle that will still rock back and forth on the center pivot pin. This may or may not be a big problem for you when moving the tires. The axle is never quite balanced and will flip back and forth as you work on it. When you remove the first tire, the axle is going to swing till it hits the stops. Hopefully your FEL has raised the wheels high enough so that you can still remove and swap the tires.

These are all good tips. As BubbaJr pointed out you can stabilize it with jack stands if you feel intimidated by it.

UNDER NO CONDITIONS work UNDER a piece of equipment supported by a hydraulic cylinder. Raise it only high enough to get the tires off the ground and place no part of your body under anything connected to the tractor. And lock the bucket control.

When I am working with another person who is doing anything around a hydraulically actuated item, my hands are in the air so the other person knows: 1) That I see him and 2) That I have no intention of moving a a lever or valve.

Reminds me of an old safety video... Three-Finger Joe... lol

Do as repeat says... don't go under the machine with it only on the bucket.

The tapered face on the wheel bolt holes is a critical part of the design. They play a large part in centering the wheel on the hub.

However you do the reversal, consider using washers and putting the nuts on backwards so their tapered face is not distorted.

If you don't do this, you are often plagued with wheel nuts which wont stay tight.
